The little girl you see pictured in the pink dress is Ashanti Jackson. She is two years old. The cause of her death is tragic yet not uncommon. Ashanti suffers from a rare congenital defect known as ebonyplexia. She is allergic to black people.
When exposed to other blacks for prolonged periods of time, sufferers' of ebonyplexia experience respiratory problems, specifically spasms in the bronchi of the lungs, causing difficulty in breathing.
Ashanti's mother, Narissa, 21, released this picture in order to raise awareness of the disease.
Around 100 children die of ebonypoxia every year.
